Milan Tomic is no longer the coach of Crvena Zvezda, according to Eurohoops sources. After a new meeting which was held today, the club management accepted his resignation and his former assistant Andrija Gavrilovic will be the interim coach.

As it was reported yesterday in Serbia, Tomic offered his resignation on Sunday evening after losing to Krka for the Adriatic League. Tomic is leaving Zvezda after starting the season with a 1-2 record in the Adriatic ABA League and also 1-2 in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

The details of Tomic’s departure were revealed later the same day by club president Nebojsa Covic: “Today, Milan Tomic mutually parted ways with Crvena Zvezda. And in the best order and friendly relations. We are grateful to him, and he to us. The club won three trophies with him, he returned Crvena Zvezda to EuroLeague. Everything is all right. There was no meanness. We analyzed the situation together and reached conclusions which should help the club that is always under a pathological pressure”, he said, per Basketball Sphere.

He also noted that they are taking their time in picking the new coach: “We are analyzing everything, but we are in no hurry. Whoever becomes the new coach, he will have the support of everyone at the club. Nobody planned this, but that’s sport, business. We don’t have the money to pay coaches 500 or 600 thousand euros and also give him an ‘A’ class car, 100 square meters flat. We don’t have that money. We are also advocates of giving young coaches a chance”, Covic said and added: “We have to help young people, because Serbia is losing coaches, and we are not the best environment for foreign coaches.”
