Panathinaikos fired head coach Argiris Pedoulakis following the home defeat to Alba Berlin in Round 8 of the EuroLeague regular season, as it was announced Friday.

Assistant Giorgos Vovoras will take on head coach duties starting from the team’s Greek League game with Ionikos.

On Sunday, Panathinaikos had been eliminated to Promitheas Patras in a Greek Cup quarterfinals knockout game. The day after the match, Panathinaikos boss Dimitris Giannakopoulos expressed his complaints to the players for the loss.

Pedoulakis was hired this summer for his third stint with Panathinaikos. He was previously the head coach from 2012 to March 2014 and a few months at the beginning of the 2016-2017 season. He has won the Greek League title of 2013 plus the Cup titles of 2013 and 2014 with the team.
