Igor Kokoskov in the shortlist of Panathinaikos

Panathinaikos is on the market for a head coach, after parting ways with Argiris Pedoulakis and the duo of Igor Kokoskov and Dimitris Priftis are among the most prominent targets. The Greek club would love to welcome back Rick Pitino. However, the new head coach of the Greek national team is, by default, unavailable due to the obligations of his new position.

Panathinaikos had presented an offer to coach Igor Kokoskov – as he admitted himself in an interview to Eurohoops – back in 2015 when he decided to become an assistant with the Utah Jazz. The Greens are expected to knock on his door again and examine the possibility of a long-time contract with him.

Meanwhile, Dimitris Priftis, who currently is under contract with UNICS Kazan, is also a strong candidate. Priftis had won in 2014 the Greek championship title as the associate coach of Panathinaikos, under club legend Fragkiskos Alvertis.

UNICS has started the season with a 5-2 record in the EuroCup and a 3-3 record in the VTB United League, and Priftis, who is on his third season with the team, may be able to be released if an offer from Panathinaikos comes.
