Unicaja Malaga and Barcelona will fight today for the first trophy of the season in Spain at the Supercoppa final in the Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga.

For the hosts, this is only the second time they play in the final for this trophy. They have been in the same position back in the 2006 when they were again the hosts, but lost to Tau Ceramica of Tiaggo Splitter (83-78).

Malaga is missing this trophy, having won the Spanish league title (2005-06) and the Copa Del Rey (2004-05). Considering the fact that they have beaten the winner of the three previous Supercoppa finals, Real Madrid, in the semifinal, they have already made a key step.

Barcelona on the other hand will play for the seventh straight time in the Supercoppa final, having in total nine final appearances and five trophies.

It’s worth mentioning that Barcelona won the Supercoppa back in 2004, when the current format was introduced and the host ciy was again Malaga. The Catalans have played against Unicaja in a Supercoppa tournament once. It was also back in 2004, when Barcelona got the semifinal win (70-62).
