The incident outside OAKA wth a Karsiyaka fan being injured by a knife and also the tension before the game are expected to be the reason for Panathinaikos to be punished by Euroleague.

As Tamer Ustaoglu who is in charge of the basketball branch of the club said to Turkish media: “Pananthinaikos have fanatical fans. When a Turkish team goes to Athens, they do same thing. We sent the photo of the anti-Kemal Ataturk banner to Euroleague, they will decide what they do (ed.note: Karsiyaka fans are probably the biggest Ataturk fans in Turkey). We will do whatever it takes in order to ensure that their fans will not come to Izmir. I spoke with Panathinaikos president. We reached an agreement about that. They got mad because of we went there with so many fans. The Greek police didn’t take enough measure. they took it after the game”.

A total of 300 Turkish fans traveled to Athens, where they made graffitis on buildings of the city center and also in a Greek orthodox church.
