Spanoulis’ magnificence handles victory to Olympiacos

Two of the absolute Greats in modern basketball history wanted to win this game so badly. But only one could be victorious when the final buzzer sounded. Vassilis Spanoulis beat the buzzer with an unbelievable and extremely difficult three-point shot and Olympiacos won the second Final vs Panathinaikos 68 – 66, tying the series and reclaiming back its lost home-court advantage.

It was not a pretty game per se, since both the Greens and the Reds suffered from horrid shooting, especially from behind the arc, and many bad choices throughout the whole game. With the score 63 – 65 and only seconds to go, Dimitris Diamantidis, who haven’t scored a field goal in the game until then, got the ball and banged one of his classic step-back downtown jumpers to give his team the lead 66 – 65. But it was not over…

Vassilis Spanoulis took the responsibility of making the last shot that would mean everything for Olympiacos in the next possession. With less than four seconds to go and faced with intense personal defense by Nick Calathes, V-Span made his own outstanding shot from behind the arc, as his team left “OAKA” arena victorious.

Update: Panathinaikos will protest the result of the game, since they claim that Vassilis Spanoulis made a traveling violation before hitting the basket that decided the game. It is possible that the Greens will not go to “Peace and Friendship” arena for the third game in the series, if their demand is not satisfied.
