Vasily Karasev named VTB Coach of the Year

With an impressive 23-7 record, Zenit St. Petersburg won third place in the standings of the regular season of VTB League, and its head coach, Vasily Karasev was named “Coach of the Year” in VTB League.

At the same time, the team finished above powerhouses like Khimki Moscow and Lokomotiv Kuban, beating the latter in the last crucial match before the playoffs. Karasev’s input in this first-time achievement of Zenit didn’t go unnoticed by the league’s expert panel that voted him as “Coach of the Year”.

The Russian coach received five out of the twelve votes, one more than Giorgos Bartzokas, of Lokomotiv Kuban, who finished second with four. Dimitris Itoudis, of CSKA Moscow, Ainars Bagatskis of Nizhny Novgorod and Evgeny Pashutin of Unics Kazan received one vote each.
