Granite defense leads Villeurbanne to the 2-1 against Monaco

Not a pretty game at all between Villeurbanne and Monaco, but the hosts couldn’t care less. With their 65 – 58 victory against Monaco, they made the 2-1 in the semifinals series and they already smell the scent of the Finals.

Villeurbanne played excellent defense throughout the whole game, but it was in the final minutes that put this weapon into maximum use. With the score 57 – 58 and three minutes to go after a basket by Darrel Mitchell, Asvel allowed zero points by their opponents, while scoring eight of their own.

Ware Caspar, Dave Lighty and Darrel Watkins dropped 11 points each with the latter also grabbing 8 rebounds to hail as the winners’ top performer

Meanwhile it is safe to assume that in these series we are watching the… ghost of the Monaco that impressed everyone during the regular season. Coach Mitrovic’s players shot with a hideous 29.2 from the field and only Adrien Uter (21 points, 4 rebounds) provided a truly solid input for his team.
