After Carmelo Anthony stated that the zika virus will factor his participation in the Olympic Games, Pau Gasol becomes another player who openly expresses his concerns about the disease, saying that it might stop him from going to Rio for the tournament.

“I’m seriously thinking of not participating in the Olympic Games because of zika virus”, said Gasol in Spanish newspaper El Pais. “What matters is the health of the athletes and the fans that want to go to Rio. I have some inside information on the matter and I’m sharing it with my fellow Spanish athletes. The situation is serious”.

“I hope that the Olympic Committee and the health organizations provide all the needed information on the risks of going to Brazil” he continued saying. “It is a threat which is much more serious and harmful than we think”.

Gasol also commented on the rumors that link him to the San Antonio Spurs: “The team is an interesting case for every player. One of the best options a player can find. I will evaluate my options when the right moment comes”.

And what about his future in the NBA? “It’s promising but a bit uncertain until July. I will evaluate the different projects and situations in order to make the right decision when the time comes”.
