Italy beats Puerto Rico in last game before the OQT

In the last friendly game ahead of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Turin, the Italian national team beat Puerto Rico 83 – 70 to end the preparation period on a high note.

The Italian’s offensive superiority against their opponents was obvious throughout most of the game and was mainly translated in the 23 assists with which coach Messina’s players finished the match.

Danilo Gallinari scored 18 points behind almost perfect shooting (5/6 from the field, 7/7 free throws), while Luigi Datome and Daniel Hackett dropped 11 and 10 points respectively. The point guard of Olympiacos was also his team’s top passer with 7 assists.

Veteran Carlos Arroyo registered double-double of 12 points plus 10 assists for Puerto Rico and J.J. Barea added 12 points as well. The Puerto-Ricans will head to Belgrade for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, in which they will face Serbia and Angola.
