Spain’s first eventful win in the Games

Spain managed to get the first win of the competition over Nigeria with 96-87 in a rather eventful night.

Fans missed the start of game between Nigeria and Spain, after an unattended backpack was found in the arena, triggering a security alert and a controlled detonation of the bag. Since security got everything under control, the fans where able to enter the arena afterall.

As for the game, it was a “do or die” for Spain, thus their beginning was most impressive. In the beginning of the second quarter, they were up with 16 points (27-11).

However, Nigeria proved how the team gets improved every time and even managed a short lead after 30 minutes, with 66-65.

Juan Carlos Navarro scored a crucial three point shot in the beginning of the final period, followed by a dunk by Willy Hernangomez. When things started to fall into place for Scariolo’s team, the win seemed easy.
