Spain tried its best, but that ended up being cutting the lead of USA to three (33-30) during the first half. The London gold medalists got the win and a place in the final, prevailing 82-76. After losing two consecutive Olympic finals to USA, Spain was defeated for a third time in the semifinal.

It was not easy for the winners, who got 22 points from Klay Thompson and started the game with a 26-17 advantage and pretty much kept it until the end. Spain tried, the half time score was 45-39, but despite staying near their opponents, they couldn’t get the lead or even the tie.

The first half included also five technical fouls and DeMarcus Cousins fouled out at the third. Still USA had many options and also a solid defensive effort. Pau Gasol with 23 points tried his best, however it was not enough.

USA shot a little better, had a 12 rebounds advantage (53-41) and an amazing game by DeAndre Jordan who scored 9 points and also had 16 rebounds and 4 blocks. He was the player who decided the outcome. Sergio Rodriguez with 11 points and 5 assists also had a solid game for Spain.
