Mulaomerovic punishes Teletovic: “His actions are inexcusable”

The aftershock of the heated incident between Mirza Teletovic and Dzanan Musa has brought the captain of the Bosnian national team in…. “detention”.

Head coach Damir Mulaomerovic decided to punish the Milwaukee Bucks forward by not including him in the team’s squad that traveled to Sweden for the next game of the Eurobasket qualifiers.

“First thing’s first: The captain of a team doesn’t have a right to behave in the way Teletovic did in the game against Russia,” said Mulaomerovic to explain his decision. “There are no excuses for his act, the press conference and the whole incident with Musa. We have to take into account how we behave either when we win or when we lose.”

Even though the two negative protagonists of the game between Bosnia and Russia let bygones be bygones, also issuing a common apology, their coach was not really up to let the matter simply blow away in the wind. Another thing that disturbed him was Teletovic’s decision to give a press conference the day after the game, something that “Mula” had prohibited him from doing.

Speaking in front of local journalists, the 30-year old power forward commented on the national team’s coaching staff, saying “they don’t work the way they should” and naming them as responsibles for the lack of discipline that breeds situations like the one with Musa.

Mulaomerovic answered back to Teletovic’s implications saying that: “How can we keep ‘order and discipline’ when the captain is the first who doesn’t comply? I don’t deny that he is one of our best players however Mirza is not travelling with us. He comes late for training, sometimes he doesn’t appear at all. He is late for lunch, in practices. How can we have discipline if he behaves like this? He also came to the camp overweight, something that you can easily notice.”
