Barcelona survived Baskonia in overtime

Barcelona got the big 98-92 overtime win (84-84) against Baskonia in the biggest game of the 3rd gameday in Liga Endesa. The guests had the chance to win the game, but Adam Hanga made only one of his two free throws with 4 seconds left, while Tyrese Rice missed a half court shot at the buzzer.

Justin Doellman scored 24 points for the winners and Rice returned to action with 20 points, while Ante Tomic and Juan Carlos Navarro added 14 points each. Andrea Bargnani was the top scorer of the losing side with 18 points and Hanga had a full stats like with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. In total seven players of Baskonia scored in double digits, as coach Sito Alonso used a very short rotation.

With the game on the line and Barcelona leading 84-83, the coach of hosts, Giorgos Bartzokas, decided not to foul early in order to have the final possession. If Hanga had made his free throws, then Baskonia would probably had won and Bartzokas explained his decision: “It was a matter of instinct and I decided that it was better for us to play the defense and not foul”.
