Markovic and Zenit St. Petersburg overcome Buducnost at the buzzer

A buzzer beating jump shot by Stefan Markovic handed Zenit St. Petersburg a 97 – 95 road victory against Buducnost. The Russian team can now aim at the first place in Group C while their opponents lost the chance to finish their Eurocup games at home with a win.

Before the Serbian guard (12 points, 6 assists) sank the tie-breaker, Ryan Toolson had a sizzling output of 32 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds to lead his team. Kyle Landry added 15 plus 6 rebounds and Janis Timma 11 along with 5 boards.

Despite Zenit’s qualitative superiority, Buducnost put a strong fight, even though the game held zero importance, since the Montenegrins have been already eliminated from the competition. Everytime the the guests tried make a run in order to build a lead, coach Zouros’ players found a way to come back and remain close.

Two free throws by Petar Popovic with 15 seconds to go could have given the hosts a chance to fight in OT, but then… Markovic happened.
