Panathinaikos officially announced the acquisition of Italian swingman Alessandro Gentile for the remainder of the 2016-2017 season.

Gentile, 24, joins the Greens on loan from Olimpia Milano where he has played since December 2011. Earlier this month, Milano and Gentile had reached a mutual decision for him to be sent on loan, preferably in a EuroLeague team, something which took place with the player signing with Panathinaikos.

The Greek club’s new addition will be able to register for EuroLeague from the beginning of the second round of the regular season and he is expected to make his “Green” debut in the competition during the road game against Olympiacos on January.

Gentile is also following on his father’s footsteps: Ferdinando Gentile spent three years of his career with Panathinaikos, from 1998 to 2001. With the Greek team he won the 2000 European championship and the Greek league league thrice (1999, 2000, 2001).

With Olimpia Milano he has averaged 10.8 points, 3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game in the EuroLeague season so far, plus 9.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 32 assists per game in the Italian League.
