Cape Verde star center Edy Tavares complained about some organization issues in the 2025 AfroBasket on social media.

“We experienced a delay of approximately three to four hours before our flight,” Tavares wrote on X. “Upon arrival in Luanda, we waited two hours for the luggage; however, my suitcase remained in Namibe. This tournament has been truly challenging. Tomorrow we face another super important match game…”

“We have been up since 645 am and still haven’t gotten to our hotel, with only breakfast that we ate a 7am. It’s 5PM right now, still waiting,” Cape Verde swingman Ivan Almeida mentioned under Tavares’ post.

After beating Rwanda 75 – 62 Sunday (17/8) to conclude the Group Stage, Cape Verde traveled from Mocamedes to Angola capital Ruanda, where the knockout stage of the AfroBasket will be held. Tavares and his teammates will face Tunisia Tuesday (19/8) and the winner will move to the quarterfinals to play against Angola.

Tavares, a three-time EuroLeague DPOY and former Final Four MVP with Real Madrid, is averaging 10.7 points, 12.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.7 blocks in the AfroBasket so far.
