Spanish Federation president Jorge Garbajosa accused EuroLeague Basketball of not wanting to negotiate regarding the conflicting schedule of the calendar of the competition and the program of the national teams ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games.

“Everyone has to give some ground to reach for the common good. FIBA has already taken the first step by delaying the start of the Olympic Qualifiers for a few days (June 24 – 28, 2020) but negotiating with someone who doesn’t want to negotiate… is impossible,” Garbajosa said as reported by EFE, per Marca.

Garbajosa also talked about 2020 EuroLeague Final Four taking place one week later than usual since it’s planned for May 21 to 24 May. A period that overlaps with the playoffs of European domestic leagues.

“There is a room in the calendar. If you sit down with a pen and do calculations, they come out. I don’t like it at all that the EuroLeague has put in the Final Four in the middle of the domestic league playoffs,” Garbajosa said.
