Interviewed by Gigantes Del Basket, Usman Garuba spoke about his progress in the second NBA year with the Houston Rockets, while saying he wants to rock the Spain jersey in the upcoming 2023 FIBA World Cup.

“I’ve improved many things, like reading the game, shooting, intangibles… I’m a better player, but I still don’t think I’ve gotten half of what I can do. This summer I want to work to give everything next season and make the most of my potential. I know that I can give much more”, he said about him becoming a better player.

The former Real Madrid player said that EuroBasket 2022 has helped him, before talking about the World Cup. “It obviously helped. I felt like a basketball player again, after a difficult year, missing the Summer League. It was very good, and now we have an event like the World Cup, for which we are going full throttle”, the 21-year-old added.

Under Sergio Scariolo, Usman Garuba played crucial minutes at EuroBasket 2022, averaging 4.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. Spain will face Iran, Cote d’Ivoire, and Brazil in Group G, which will be hosted in Jakarta, Indonesia.
