The future of coach Vincent Collet in French bench in question

Vincent Collet has won seven medals as the coach of the French national team, most notably the gold in Eurobasket 2013 and also a silver in the 2020 Olympics.

He was hired back in 2009, and a change of guard was expected after the Paris Olympics, but after the failure of the French national team in the FIBA World Cup anything is possible.

Asked about the future of Collet on the national team bench the president of the French federation, Jean-Pierre Siutat said: “That’s one of the files that we are going to open”.

Siutat together with French national team GM Boris Diaw held a press conference for French media in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Siutat promised, as reported by BeBasket, that the federation “will look at everything and not sweep the dust under the carpet”.

In theory, a final decision should be made by the 10th of October, since the Paris Olympics are right around the corner and the chances of Collet staying in his position are really high.

As Diaw said: “For the moment, no decision has been made on anyone, including Vincent Collet. Whether he can be questioned? We can all be. We are all questioned, any person on the staff can be questioned. We have worked like this every year. But at present, that is not the case”.

Collet has a contract with the French Basketball Federation until the summer of 2024.
