The Bahamas captured everybody’s attention in the last few years, getting very close to participating in the latest edition of the Olympic Games in Paris with a significant number of NBA players on board.
Players like Buddy Hield and DeAndre Ayton, for example, alongside Eric Gordon, suited up for the Caribbean representative, going close to beating Spain in the 2024 FIBA OQT.
According to Jamaica Observer’s journalist Daniel Blake, Jamaica could enter the same route, bringing in several NBA players to boost their chances of growing in International basketball.
Scottie Barnes from the Toronto Raptors, Isaiah Stewart from the Detroit Pistons, and Devin Vassell from the San Antonio Spurs have been included in the list of players currently involved in talks with the Jamaican Basketball Federation.
Moreover, Amen and Ausar Thompson have reportedly started their passport process last week, while both Jordan Powell and Josh Minott will suit up for the upcoming clashes in the FIBA World Cup 2027 Americas Pre-Qualifiers in August.
Jamaica has never appeared in the FIBA World Cup, not to mention the Olympic Games. They have participated only once at the FIBA AmeriCup in 2013, when they beat both Brazil and Argentina but couldn’t extend their run through the Second Round.
