Italy is among the national teams that have announced their roster for the upcoming matches in the 2027 World Cup qualifiers, which will take place in Qatar.

Coach Luca Banchi has selected 17 players, with the most notable being Achille Polonara, an Italian basketball player battling leukemia who recently spent ten days in a coma.

Polonara will serve as Italy’s captain in the upcoming matches, despite being unable to assist his teammates on the court.

Italy’s first group stage qualification match for the World Cup will be played at home against Iceland on November 27, followed by an away game in Lithuania three days later.
