Yabusele urges unity, hoping all French stars are available for summer FIBA windows

The senior national team of France is facing crucial international windows in the 2027 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers this summer, with roster availability a focal point for head coach Frederic Fauthoux. Following a disappointing Round of 16 exit in last summer’s EuroBasket 2025, the program is looking to reset its culture and solidify its path toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Leading the charge is Chicago Bulls forward Guerschon Yabusele, who has confirmed his commitment to the upcoming July fixtures. Speaking with Maxime Aubin of L’Equipe, the Dancing Bear emphasized the need for unity after recent international setbacks.

“After what happened last summer, it’s important that we all stick together,” insisted the 30-year-old big, viewing the matches against Belgium on July 3 and Finland on July 6 as vital for building team cohesion. While NBA schedules often conflict with FIBA windows, Yabusele remains optimistic about a full-strength squad, noting he ‘hopes that everyone will be available’, including stars like Victor Wembanyama.

However, the frontcourt may be thinned by the absence of Vincent Poirier. The Anadolu Efes center is prioritizing long-term health following a season ravaged by a major knee injury that required surgery and sidelined him for the first half of the club year. In an interview with BeBasket, he admitted that international duty is currently secondary to his rehabilitation. “For the moment, the French national team isn’t really on my mind,” the 32-year-old center explained. “I’m more focused on my recovery, taking care of myself, getting back to my best, and healing my knee.”

Currently sitting at 3-1 in Group G, France has already secured a spot in the second qualifying phase, in Group L. While the July window serves as the final push for the initial schedule, the August window looms, where France hopes their NBA contingent will be fully cleared to help secure a ticket to the World Cup final stage.
