The Slovenian Basketball Federation announced that Los Angeles Lakers center Jaxson Hayes has officially obtained Slovenian citizenship.
The 26-year-old big man took the oath at the Slovenian Embassy in Washington and received a Slovenian passport, becoming eligible to represent the country in international competitions.
“Jaxson Hayes has become a Slovenian citizen,” the federation announced, adding that the 213-centimeter center is expected to be an important part of the national team in the future.
However, Hayes will not be available for Slovenia during the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers window.
The Lakers center averaged 7.5 points and 4.1 rebounds in 66 NBA appearances this season and is expected to strengthen Slovenia’s frontcourt in the years ahead.
