Johannes Voigtmann has announced his retirement from international basketball after 128 appearances for Germany.
“Very few players manage to stop at their peak. I think this is a very good moment for me,” the 33-year-old Bayern Munich forward told Münchner Merkur/tz.
Voigtmann represented Germany at four European Championships, two World Cups, and two Olympic Games, helping the national team win the 2023 World Cup, EuroBasket 2025, and bronze at EuroBasket 2022.
He had initially planned to retire after the 2024 Paris Olympics but was persuaded by head coach Alex Mumbru to continue for one more year. His final tournament ended prematurely after he suffered a serious knee injury during the EuroBasket group stage.
Voigtmann will be honored ahead of Germany’s World Cup qualifying game against the Netherlands on Thursday in Cologne.
