Luka Doncic on Slovenia missing the FIBA WC: “I am so disappointed”

Luka Doncic spoke to the New York Times about Slovenia missing the chance to play in the FIBA World Cup and he didn’t hide his feelings.

“I’m so disappointed,” Doncic said in an interview after Friday’s practice with the Dallas Mavericks. “We’re the European champions. We should be playing.”

Playing without two NBA stars, Luka Doncic and Goran Dragic, and also without their EuroLeague players, Slovenia couldn’t qualify via the FIBA “windows”.

“To be European champions and not be in the World Cup, it’s tough,” Doncic said Friday. “I don’t know why they changed it (ed.note: the qualification system).”

Still, Doncic wants to play for the Slovenian national team, provided he will be able to. “Olympics, next EuroBasket, next World Cup — I want to play for the national team whenever I’m available,” Doncic said. “If I don’t have injuries, I’ll play.”
