Spanish national team announces 2019 World Cup preliminary roster

There are a couple of major absences on the team’s roster.

Spanish Basketball Federation Jorge Garbajosa and national team head coach Sergio Scariolo announced the preliminary squad for the 2019 World Cup (31/8 – 15/9).

Reigning NBA champion with the Toronto Raptors Marc Gasol, Real Madrid guard Sergio Llull, Phoenix Suns guard Ricky Rubio and captain Rudy Fernandez (Real Madrid) headline a roster of 16 players. Pau Gasol (injury), Raptors forward/center Serge Ibaka, Barcelona forward Nikola Mirotic and CSKA Moscow guard Sergio Rodriguez are the most notable names absent from the list.

Spain will face Puerto Rico, Tunisia and Iran in Group C of the first stage of the tournament. Two teams will advance to the next phase.
