Germany announces World Cup preliminary squad

The German Basketball Federation informed on Henrik Rodl’s announcement about the 2019 FIBA World Cup preliminary squad via press release on Thursday. The 50-year-old coach named 16 players with NBA and EuroLeague experience filling up the roster.

Ismet Akpinar, Danilo Barthel, Robin Benzing, Isaac Bonga, Niels Giffey, Karim Jallow, Maxi Kleber, Maodo Lo, Andreas Obst, Joshiko Saibou, Dennis Schroder, Daniel Theis, Johannes Thiemann, Johannes Voigtmann, Moritz Wagner and Paul Zipser made the squad.

The Germans’ training camp will tip off on August 5th. A friendly tournament in Hamburg is scheduled between August 16th and 18th. On August 21st, the Germans will travel to Japan for a couple more preparation matches, before making their way to China for the World Cup.

Germany will play their first three games at Shenzhen. First up will be France on September 1st. The Dominican Republic will be the second opponent two days later and the Germans will round up Group G games by battling Jordan on September 5th.
