Greece beat Iran 82 – 69 in its first preparation game ahead of the 2019 World Cup. The match was held behind closed doors in the city of Heraklion, Crete.

Giorgos Printezis (14 points) and captain Ioannis Bourousis (13 points) stood out from the Greek national team. Hamed Haddadi (20 points, seven rebounds) was the top performer from the Iranian side.

Giannis Antetokounmpo didn’t participate in the game in order to fully recover from gastroenteritis. His brother and Milwaukee Bucks teammate Thanasis was also out due to a muscle spasm.

Greece and Iran will face each other once more in the upcoming “Aegean International tournament” which will also be played in Heraklion from 9 to 11 of August. Hungary also participates in the tournament.
