Greece superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo commented on how the three games his national team played in the “Atlas” preparation tournament will help the squad improve its chemistry ahead of the World Cup (31/8 – 15/9).

“It was a very important tournament,” Antetokounmpo said after the win over Venezuela per the Greek Federation. “Playing three games helps you acquire good chemistry. The rest of the guys have been playing together for quite some time. I haven’t played with the national team for two years, so we needed to find our chemistry. We faced teams that play a different style of basketball, that are very aggressive. They took many long-range shots. These games definitely helped us prepare for our goal, the World Cup games.”

Antetokounmpo notched 13 points, four rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks in a win over Jordan and then set a new career-high with the national team by scoring 26 points in a victory over the Dominican Republic. The “Greek Freak” was left out of Game 3 (a win over Venezuela) due to a knee irritation.

Greece will be traveling to the city of Nanjing where the team games for Group F of the first round of the World Cup will be held. Brazil, Montenegro and New Zealand are also participating in the Group.
