Spanish national team head coach Sergio Scariolo and captain Rudy Fernandez sent messages of support and condolences to Spanish former footballer and current coach Luis Enrique following the death of his nine-year-old daughter after a battle with cancer.

“There aren’t many words that are useful at the moment,” Scariolo said per Marca. “There are very few things that one can think that are worse in life, than losing a child. I have admired the way with which Luis Enrique and his family have dealt with this tragedy. We who are committed to this fight and child cancer know it: not all battles are won but those are won give you the strength to continue. I feel especially touched by the issue. The personal tragedy of a great athlete. Few words can alleviate him.”

Enrique had announced that his daughter died Thursday (29/8) afternoon, via a tweet.

Fernandez added the following: On behalf of the entire team and the entire Federation, I send [Luis Enrique] a lot of strength. In these hard times, you have to feel warmed by your friends and family.”
