Djordjevic: I respect USA, they are the biggest favorites

An easy win over Angola made up Serbia’s start in the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Sasha Djordjevic saw his national team effective on offense and defense, still answered a question on Team USA in the press conference following the Group D affair.

“It is a long way; we know how to get where we want. We have to stay humble,” he pointed out. “I am not thinking about Team USA. I do respect them; they are the biggest favorites. They do not have some of the players, but still, have a great team and a great coach. And I have said that also yesterday, so please come to my press conferences and don’t ask me the same questions”.

“Serious game, serious approach, serious preparation. We played a good opener” mentioned the 52-year-old coach on the contest versus Angola. “Everybody wants to be good in the first game. There is anxiety. We controlled the boards, shared the ball, and many players were in good shooting shape.”

“Playing together is a trademark for Serbian basketball” he took out on the 32 assists versus the African side. “We like to share the ball, not be selfish. This is great for any coach. I am proud to see that.”

“We know how important basketball is in the Philippines,” Djordjevic said on Monday’s game against the Philippines. “We think about ourselves first, approach the game in the right way. We approach every game in the same way with all the necessary information we give to the players.”
