Germany completes first round with rout over Jordan

Germany crushed Jordan 96 – 62 to register its first win in the FIBA World Cup in a game between the two eliminated teams in Group G. Jordan completed the first round with 0 – 3.

Maxi Kleber scored 18 points and Danilo Barthel posted 13 points and five rebounds for Germany. Paul Zipser dropped 12 points and Dennis Schroder finished with a double-double of 10 points and 11 assists.

For Jordan, Ahmet Al Dwairi (Duverioglu) notched 17 points and eight rebounds. Dar Tucker scored 14.

Germany was coming off the loss to Puerto Rico that shut down its qualification chances. They entered the match by overpowering Jordan 28 – 17 in the first quarter and remained in control for the entirety of the game.

In the fourth period, Jordan saw its opponents scoring 30 points while answering with merely 12.

“At the end of the day, they are one of the top teams in the world. I’m hoping we will use this as a learning experience and we’ll be able to grow as a basketball team,” Jordan coach Joseph Stiebing said.

Germany and Jordan are placed in Group P of the classification round for spots 17 to 32. They will play against Canada and Senegal.
