Gregg Popovich in praise of Serbian national team

Team USA head coach Gregg Popovich had only the best to say for the Serbian national team after the loss of his squad to the “Orlovi” in a World Cup classification game for positions 5 to 8.

“I’ve been impressed the whole time with their character,” Popovich said in the post-game presser. “They stick to it. And their persistence. Tonight it was a great example of that.”

The Serbian team is very experienced. Sasha does a great job with them. They aren’t just talented. They play the game in a fantastic manner. They hit the open man consistently on every single possession. A really good drive-and-kick team. Obviously they are also talented. That’s that.”

Following a question about returning to Asia with the Sacramento Kings before the launch of the NBA season, USA forward Harrison Barnes talked about his eagerness to play top-level basketball during summer.

“It’s really not that bad. I’m a hooper at heart. Wanting to play competitive basketball instead of playing pick. I’d do that in a heartbeat. The opportunity to represent your country, at least for a player like myself, it doesn’t always come around. You got to savor these opportunities and jump on those when the opportunity is there. For me, it’s been an honor to do that travel,” Barnes mentioned.
