The Greek League (HEBA) made official the end of the season today after a general assembly of the clubs (photo), which also decided after a unanimous vote for Panathinaikos to be named champion for the 2019-20 season.

The general assembly also decided that there will be no relegations due to the suspension of the season with two historic clubs, PAOK and Aris, staying in the league.

However, it’s not decided yet how many teams will compete in the top Greek division next season. The maximum would be 16 clubs, with two additions from the second division.

On the other hand, the clubs are in talks for a possible 200.000 euros fee per club to be able to compete in the top division, which will also be a guarantee for players’ payments. A minimum budget and capacity may also be instituted, and in that case, it’s unclear how many clubs will be able to meet those standards.

Meanwhile, Olympiacos until further notice will not be part of the top division due to the suspension of the second division after the COVID-19 pandemic.
