George Papas fires in 16 points as Olympiacos routs Apollon

Backed by a solid performance of George Papas, Olympiacos blew out Apollon Carna, 97-60, in Peace and Friendship Stadium Monday.

The rookie coming out of Monmouth dropped 16 points, a new personal best since turning pro and joining the Reds ahead of the 2022-23 season. Tucking in 4/6 from three-point range was the main highlight of his effort in Greece’s Basket League Regular Season Round 12 contest.

Sasha Vezenkov banked in a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double for the team coached by Giorgos Bartzokas cruising to 12-0 at the domestic level. Alec Peters went for 11 points, eight rebounds, and one assist. Isaiah Canaan was cleared to practice but sat this one out.

In his debut for the team based in Patras, Alonzo Verge Jr. registered 16 points to go with four assists, three rebounds, and one steal. The 24-year-old guard with NCAA experience including Nebraska and Arizona State inked a deal for the rest of the season.

On the weekend portion of the Greek league’s Round 12, rival Panathinaikos went up to 10-2 with a comfortable win against Aris.

Coming up next is Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 20 for both the Reds and Greens. For Bartzokas’ side, a key home fixture opposite Real Madrid Friday. The team guided by Dejan Radonjic will visit Virtus Segafredo Bologna Thursday.
