Panathinaikos Athens guard Kendrick Nunn and Olympiacos Piraeus swingman Evan Fournier are eligible to play in Game 4 of the Greek League Finals, as the league judge decided that neither player should be suspended for their actions in Game 3.
Nunn will pay a fine of 10,000 euros for behavior that was “defamatory to the sport.” Fournier received a fine of 30,000 euros for the same reason.
Panathinaikos had filed a complaint against Fournier after the latter made an obscene gesture toward fans sitting courtside late in the third quarter. The player was hit with a technical foul and was ejected since he already had an unsportsmanlike foul.
In an apparent reaction to Fournier not getting suspended, Panathinaikos posted an “announcement” with a pitch black photo on social media.
Olympiacos has also filed a complaint against Nunn for the player “attacking and trying to hit” a referee. In the last minute of the game, Nunn moved aggressively toward referee Theonas and pointed his finger at the official’s face before he was ejected with his second technical foul.
Olympiacos, which hosts Game 4 Sunday (8/6), leads the series 2-1.
The other fines/sanctions for various Game 3 incidents are as follows
For Panathinaikos:
A total sum of 59,900 euros in fines for various offenses such as vulgar chants, insulting banners, fans entering the court (without any other incident or game interruption), throwing objects to Olympiacos’ coach and players.
For Olympiacos:
Coach Giorgos Bartzokas received a fine of 3,000 euros for behavior “defamatory to the sport (referring to Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos in a disrespectful manner while complaining to a referee).
General Manager Nikos Lepeniotis received a fine of 10,000 for comments “defamatory to the sport” after the game was over while talking to the Greek national television.
The club was also hit with a fine of 10,000 for the above.
