In a subdued atmosphere at the OAKA following the derby against Olympiacos, Panathinaikos secured the win over the combative Karditsa, prevailing 92–85.
Kendrick Nunn was the only player to perform at a very high level, finishing the game with 27 points and 6 assists for the Greens.
Also scoring in double figures for Panathinaikos was T.J. Shorts (15 pts, 6 ast), while for Nikos Papanikolaou’s team, the leading scorer was Brandon Jefferson with 20 points.
Nikos Rogkavopoulos was included in the 11-man squad selected by Ergin Ataman, but did not play due to tightness in his biceps.
Left out of Panathinaikos’ six-foreigner list for this game were Jerian Grant (who had played through calf discomfort against Olympiacos) and Kenneth Faried. Injured Dino Mitoglou (right hamstring strain) was also absent, while Marius Grigonis and Mathias Lessort were, in any case, registered only on the EuroLeague roster.
After the game for the 13th round of the Stoiximan GBL, the “Greens” improved to 11–1 (6–0 at home) and remain in 2nd place, while the Thessaly-based team dropped to 4–8 (0–6 away).
Panathinaikos now turn their attention to the EuroLeague “double week,” first hosting Armani Milan at the OAKA on Tuesday (6/1, 21:15) for Round 20, and then welcoming Virtus Bologna on Thursday (8/1, 21:15) for Round 21.
As for the Stoiximan GBL, Panathinaikos will begin the second round in Round 14, once again at the OAKA, against Peristeri on Sunday (11/1, 16:00).
On the other hand, Karditsa shift their focus to the first Play-In game of the Basketball Champions League against Spartak Subotica in Serbia on Tuesday (6/1, 21:00), while for the Stoiximan GBL they will host Olympiacos at the “Giannis Bourousis” Arena on Sunday (11/1, 13:00).
