The legendary past of Greek basketball, Nikos Galis, together with the present and immediate future of the sport, Giannis Antetokounmpo, were present in the same arena.

The two hellenic legends were spotted at the iconic “Palé” for the matchup between Aris and Panionios, in the last round of the Stoiximan GBL regular season.

Antetokounmpo, who this season has no more obligations with the Milwaukee Bucks since they did not qualify for the playoffs, traveled to Thessaloniki and, along with his family, sat next to his friend and Aris owner, Richard Hsiao.

Of course, Giannis received many requests for autographs and photos, and until the game began he tried to satisfy everyone. “I didn’t expect this reception,” the Greek Freak said to ERT, the Greek national television, shortly before tip-off.

Nikos Galis accepted the invitation from Aris BC, responded positively, and also took his seat in the official stands of the arena. When he was applauded by the team’s fans, he responded with his trademark raised fist.

And shortly before the start of the game, he met on the court another Greek legend, Panionios team manager Fanis Christodoulou, with Galis praising his old national team teammate.

As Galis said:  “We are family with Fanis. This is where the history of basketball is. It started here.”
