Panathinaikos announced its withdrawal from action in the Greek League as a protest to the referee change in Olympiacos’ game against Promitheas.

Panathinaikos OPAP released a statement in which they announced they withdraw from action in the Greek League.

The Greens will remain out of action starting off today’s game against Kimi “until the legitimacy, not the terrorism and the lawlessness that Olympiacos seeks to impose with the tolerance of the state, prevails again”, as stated in their announcement.

This marks a protest to the referee change in Olympiacos’ game against Promitheas Patras. As it was made known earlier in the day, referee Panagiotis Anastopoulos was replaced after his own request to the Referee Union and Greek Basketball Federation, following an incident that took place last night, where nearly a hundred fans gathered outside his house while chanting swears against him.

For the record, Olympiacos would have forfeited the game in case of Anastopoulos officiating and would have been automatically relegated to the second division of Greece.
