The Greek League board announced that Olympiacos Piraeus was officially relegated to Second Division, after the decision of the club to forfeit Game 1 of the playoff quarterfinal series vs. Panathinaikos Athens.

Per the announcement, Olympiacos was relegated due to the “non-participation in a league playoffs game,” and “is thus sanctioned by being eliminated for the rest of the playoffs. The team’s results in this season are voided, non-replaceable and the league proceeds with the rest of the teams. Olympiacos is placed at the bottom of the standings after the teams that finished at the last spots due to results, and is thus relegated to Second Division.”

Following the Greek Cup semifinal against Panathinaikos, Olympiacos had announced that the team won’t play in any Greek League or Cup game against Panathinaikos unless it is officiated by non-Greek referees. The “Reds” had also forfeited the most recent Greek League regular season game against Panathinaikos for the same reason.
