Nick Calathes named Greek League MVP for third straight season

Panathinaikos Athens guard Nick Calathes was named MVP of the 2018-2019 Greek League. This is the third consecutive season that the captain of Panathinaikos wins the MVP award.

Calathes, 31, topped all votings for the MVP. He received 15 out of 26 (57.69%) votes by the Greek League team captains and head coaches, 34 out of 50 votes (68%) in the media voting plus 515 (61.9%) in the fan voting.

“I’d like to thank all the fans, coaches and players tha voted for me in order to win MVP of the championship,” Calathes said per the Greek League. “It’s great joy and honor for me. Basically, I’d like to thanks my teammates and coaches because I received this award because of them. Last, I’d like to thank the fans of Panathinaikos for their support this last season. I can’t wait for the next one.”

Calathes averaged 8.57 points, 3.33 rebounds, a league-high 7.19 assists in 21:52 minutes in the regular season. He catapulted his outing in the playoffs, where he posted 14.0 points, 11.67 assists (also league-high in postseason), 3.83 rebounds in 25:47 to lead Panathinaikos to the championship title for a third straight year.
