Giannakopoulos: You didn’t have the balls to apologize

Promitheas defeated Panathinaikos in the Greek Cup on Sunday and Dimitris Giannakopoulos addressed the players in the team’s Monday practice with harsh comments.

“What is bothering me the most is that you didn’t have the balls to apologize to the fans and the organization”, Giannakopoulos said to Panathinaikos’ players, as reported by sdna.gr. “You lost to a team whose total budget is worth less than your shoes. It’s a shame for the organization, you must understand what kind of team you compete for”.

UPDATE: The players and coaching staff proceeded with an apology that was posted on the team’s official website and reads:

“We would like to apologize to our fans and the president for our performance against Promitheas. The elimination is unacceptable and we promise to change in the games to follow”.

Despite the defeat, there is currently no issue between the team and coach Argiris Pedoulakis. As sdna.gr further reports, he has the organization’s support and will try to put the Greens back on track further down the season.

Panathinaikos will look to bounce back from Sunday’s defeat when they face Alba Berlin at home. The team will most likely lack Jimmer Fredette, who exited the game vs. Promitheas with a calf injury.
