The LegaBasket Assembly decided to host an 18-team championship for the 2020-21 season as it was announced back in May, though on Monday, League president Umberto Gandini mentioned that the format will be back to 16 teams.
”Today’s meeting decided to modify resolution N°2 of 15 May 2020 by establishing the following format: a 16-team championship and a 16-team Super Cup divided into 4 days by 4 teams to follow through the Final 4″, Gandini stated.
Notably, the Italian League canceled the 2019-20 season without proclaiming a champion, while the quarterfinals of the Cup were initially scheduled for September 12 and 13, with the Final Four taking place on September 19 and 20 (venue to be defined).
