Round 19 of the Italian league is completed this Monday with games involving EuroLeague teams, and after the first of those matchups, there is a new leader in the competition.
Virtus Bologna defeated Brescia 79–87 in a game that decided the top spot in the Italian first division. Despite playing away from home, Ivanovic’s men controlled the game from start to finish to improve their record to 15–3, the same win-loss record Brescia now hold as they drop to second place.
Matt Morgan was the game’s leading scorer with 16 points, while Derrick Alston and Carsen Edwards each added 12.
Another strong performance from Amedeo Della Valle and Jason Burnell, who scored 14 points apiece, was not enough for the hosts.
The visitors’ dominance was evident from the opening tip. Virtus never trailed at any point and already enjoyed double-digit leads in the second quarter.
Despite a strong start to the second half by Brescia (45–48), Virtus regrouped and went on to fully control the game, leading by more than ten points for most of the second half and comfortably closing out the win.
To finish the round, Olimpia Milano defeated Treviso 71-76 after a very tight game. Despite Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman’s 19 points, the home team couldn’t get the victory. Marko Guduric (17 points) led the away team to another win.
