Former Serbia captain and longtime EuroLeague and EuroCup forward Milan Macvan announced his retirement from professional basketball via a message on social media. Macvan said that knee issues prevent him from playing anymore.

Macvan wrote the following statement that he published in a sequence of tweets:

“My dearest friends, my days as a professional player have come to an end. My heart would play basketball forever but unfortunately, my knees can’t take any more. Basketball has given me everything and I have given my whole self to basketball. I would like to thank everyone who has influenced my career along the years. All of my coaches, teammates and fans. The highest privilege for a sportsman is to be a part of the national team and renowned clubs who compete at the highest level. I would like to express my gratitude to Hemofarm, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Galatasaray, Olimpia Milano, Bayern Munich, Alvark Tokyo and my Partizan. I have made my childhood dreams come true, won numerous trophies and medals, made it to national team captain. I will remain a part of basketball as it is my life but in some other role. Until we meet again!”

Throughout his professional career that began in 2007, Macvan won numerous domestic titles, including the championship in Serbia, Italy, Turkey and Germany. He was also a member of the Serbian national team squads that won the silver medal in the 2016 Olympic Games and the 2009 and 2017 EuroBasket tournaments. He captained the team during the latter.
