Nikola Pekovic to reportedly take over Montenegrin Basketball Federation

Former EuroLeague champion Nikola Pekovic is will become the next president of the Montenegrin Basketball Federation. Pekovic has been the Team Manager of the Montenegrin national team since 2020.

According to a report by Vijesti, Pekovic will be officially proposed to become the new president of the Federation in an upcoming board meeting Thursday (29/4) and is expected to to be elected to the position in the following weeks when the Federation’s assembly will have its next session. He will succeed Veselin Barovic.

As a player with Montenegro, Pekovic won the gold medal in the U20 European championship and the bronze in the same competition of 2005. He also participated in the 2011 EuroBasket as a member of the senior team.

Pekovic became a EuroLeague champion in 2009 with Panathinaikos and then embarked on an NBA career from 2010 to 2017 with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played 369 before being forced to retire due to injury issues.
