The Greek Basketball Federation announced Saturday that Sotiris Manolopoulos will take over the bench for the FIBA World Cup 2023 Qualifiers Windows, starting next November.

Manolopoulos, who currently also serves as the head coach for Peristeri, will take on duties in the Greek NT, replacing Rick Pitino.

The Federation has also appointed Greek national team legend Nikos Zisis as its new General Manager for the selection. Zisis, now retired, was part of the ‘golden era’ for the nation, which included a silver medal at the 2006 FIBA World Cup, a gold medal at the 2005 EuroBasket and a bronze at the 2009 EuroBasket.

Greece has been drawn in Group B of the European Qualifiers, against Turkey, Great Britain, and Belarus. The selection will face Great Britain on November 25th and Belarus on November 28th, while they take on Turkey twice in the February windows.

In the meantime, the Greek Federation is still in talks with Dimitris Itoudis, who could take head coach duties for the upcoming FIBA EuroBasket in 2022, if an agreement with CSKA Moscow is ultimately reached.
