Italian Federation president Gianni Petrucci appeared heavily critical of the new long-term proposals that EuroLeague Basketball made to FIBA, characterizing them as “madness.”

“Maybe Jordi Bertomeu thinks that EuroLeague is more important than national teams, Eurobasket, World Cup or Olympics. We won’t follow their madness,” Petrucci said to Corriere Dello Sport, per Sportando.

On Friday, EuroLeague Basketball announced that a 26-page, seven-area proposal was shared with FIBA. Among other things, an alternative calendar was proposed according which there would be no national team competitions that will be “taking place on dates head to head with any other major sports event.”
