The French Basketball Federation, FFBB, announced that Rudy Gobert is the 2019 recipient of the Alain Gilles Trophy, named after the player who was the first French basketball icon. The annual award goes to the French Player of the Year, male or female.

NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year for the second season in a row spent 2019 with the Utah Jazz and helped France capture bronze in the FIBA World Cup.

He succeeded 2018 Alain Gilles Trophy winner Fabien Causeur with 114 points in the voting process. The 2015 and 2016 recipient Nando De Colo was ranked second with 81 points and Evan Fournier followed in third with 75.
